Ear Suctioning and Ear Wax Removal in Hawke’s Bay

Workable provides professional ear suctioning and ear wax removal services in Hastings. Our registered nurse specialist uses safe and gentle micro-suction techniques to clear earwax, debris, and other blockages, reducing the risk of pain or infection compared to traditional syringing methods.

This service is ideal for clients with blocked ears, hearing difficulties, or ongoing ear health concerns.

Why Book an Ear Suctioning Appointment?

You should consider booking if you have:

  • Excessive or impacted wax
  • Discharging ears (suppurating Otitis Media)
  • Otitis Media with Effusion (Glue Ear)
  • Otitis Externa (outer ear infection)
  • Foreign body in the ear
  • Mastoid cavity maintenance needs
  • Routine earwax clearing for hearing aid users
  • Ear problems related to ACC or war pension funding (note: ACC no longer fully funds this service)

We also welcome clients who simply want routine, preventative ear care to maintain comfort and hearing clarity.

Why Choose Micro-Suction?

Our ear suctioning is carried out under direct vision using a special ear microscope. This allows us to see clearly into the ear canal throughout the procedure and remove wax or debris with precision. Micro-suction is:
  • Less invasive than syringing
  • Safer for the eardrum and ear canal
  • Lower risk of pain and infection
  • Suitable for most patients, including those with ear surgery history or sensitive ear canals
Our registered nurse is trained and experienced in ear health, ensuring procedures are performed with care and accuracy.

Before Your Appointment

In many cases, the ears are naturally self-cleaning, and wax only needs removal if it becomes excessive or causes discomfort. However, if you have a blocked ear, you can try:

  • 3% Peroxide drops
  • Almond oil or olive oil

These may help to soften wax before your appointment, making removal easier.

If the blockage is severe or associated with inflammation, your GP may prescribe alternative drops.

Do not attempt to clear your ear with cotton buds, hair clips, matchsticks, or any other object. This can cause injury, including perforation of the eardrum.
